Christening Dress or Christening Gown? See see everything at once click on: The Perfect Pear Baby & Christening Boutique Christening gown - Christening dress - truth is, most people use these terms interchangeably.  Is it a gown?  Is it a dress? It doesn't matter, really.  We just want to be sure you get exactly what you want and that it is easy to find! So with that thought, keep in mind that in our Baby & Christening Boutique: Christening gown - or Baptism Gown - refers to a long, flowing style that is never intended for a child to toddle around.  These are often considered "classic" or "traditional" Christening gowns.  They will typically be at least 28" long - often much longer (32"-36" is pretty typical).   Christening Dress - or Baptism Dress - refers to a shorter style.  They can be "miniature versions" of big girl dresses or styles designed specifically for a Christening or Baptism.  They will be shorter than a gown (at least shorter than toe-tip but can be any length from 'shorter' to mid-calf) and are the ideal choice if baby is older. They are also ideal for after the ceremony when the family gets together to celebrate (you don't want baby to be passed around in a gown all day - it will be ruined and baby will be frustrated).
