~ Silk Christening Gowns~What can be more special than silk? Gowns made of silk or satin are some of the most sought-after traditional choices. To see current styles, click here: Silk Christening GownsSilk white is always just slightly off white in color - that's the nature of silk. Be sure to select all accessories to go with your silk gown or suit of choice are also made of silk, or they will not compliment at all. If a gown or suit is made of silk, the accessories must also be made of silk. If the gown or suit is made of another fabric that is brighter white, please do not select accessories in silk. While silk looks luxurious and rich, the off white coloration means that items made of silk will always look dingy if set against bright white of other fabrics. While the fiber content may be "silk", the "weave of the fabric also determines the look. Silk can be woven into many fabrics including (but definitely not limited to): dupioni, shantung, satin, organza, taffeta. Dupioni and shantung are enormously popular fabrics that are richly textured with irregular "slubbing" effect. This is considered to be a highly desirable trait of the fabrics. Dupioni is a bit heaver and crisper in weight than shantung; shantung has a bit more drape. Yes, silk can also be woven into satin. Unless a garment is listed as "silk" satin, you can almost always be assured that it is made of some other fabric (such as polyester, nylon, rayon, nylon or acetate - quality varies radically and is listed here in decending order with polyester usually the very best in synthetic satin). White silk satin will never blend well with the brighter whites of satin made of other fibers, The same is true with other weaves such as silk organza.
